The primary objective of this project is to help Tamil-speaking users learn and practice forex trading in a simple, accessible, and trustworthy way. Many Tamil traders struggle to learn forex in a structured manner because most resources are overly complicated and exclusively in English. The core goal of this application is to completely remove the barriers of complexity and language that users typically face on existing trading platforms.
Approach
This freelance project (July 2025 - Sep 2025) was driven by a structured UX research process. I utilized market research, competitive analysis, user surveys, personas, and affinity mapping to gain a deep understanding of user problems. By actively analyzing competitor applications like GO Forex, GUVI, and Coursera, I extracted real pain points from negative user reviews to identify what users struggle with the most.
Vision and Innovation
The vision was to design a mobile-first, trust-driven, and community-supported platform rather than just another standard trading app. While existing apps overload beginners with professional tools, technical jargon, and English-only interfaces, this solution innovates by combining learning, practice, and trading into one single, smooth, and intuitive flow.
Identifying Unique Challenges
Through market research and user personas, I identified several major challenges faced by the target audience:
Many beginners lose money quickly because they do not follow proper risk management.
Most educational content is in English, creating a significant language barrier.
Learners lack community or mentorship support, making them feel isolated during their learning journey.
There is a deep fear of scammers, making it hard for users to know which resources are trustworthy.
Resolving Complex Problems
To resolve these issues, I introduced clear, targeted features into the app:
I created a structured roadmap with simple, short, and easy-to-follow lesson videos to overcome learning barriers.
I integrated features missing from competitors, such as Native Language support, a Trade Journal, and Trading Quizzes.
I deliberately rejected the idea of adding advanced charts and multiple dashboards at the start after usability testing revealed they created unnecessary complexity for beginners.
User-Centric Design
I created two distinct personas to empathize with the users: Gowtham (a 27-year-old IT Employee seeking financial freedom but lacking Tamil materials) and Varsha (a 22-year-old college student who is shy to ask doubts and fears scammers). To address their emotional states, I designed UX storyboards to visually map and predict the user's journey from their initial "Financial Search" struggle all the way to "Freedom Achieved" after using the app.
Meeting User Needs
I mapped out the entire customer experience using a User Journey Map, covering everything from Discovery to Retention.
To solve the pain point of long registration processes, I introduced easy sign-ups using a Phone number or Google.
To keep learners engaged and motivated, I added options to ask doubts to experts and an active in-app community forum for peer discussions.
Detailed Pages and Features
The application equips beginners with highly practical tools integrated right into the platform:
Features include News, Market Updates, Signals, and a dedicated Risk Management Tool.
The core learning section contains digestible video lessons and technical quizzes.
Before moving to real trading, users can use the 'Trade Journal' feature to add taken trades, track results, and build confidence.
Accessibility and Optimization
Through an iterative approach involving wireframing and prototyping with target users, I developed a high-fidelity user interface that is both highly user-friendly and fully localized in Tamil. Accessibility considerations were strictly applied to ensure the app is inclusive, legible, and highly usable for all types of users, especially absolute beginners.
Conclusions
The final design prioritizes clarity and confidence-building over unnecessary complexity. By delivering a user-centered, Tamil-first trading application, this project successfully simplifies forex education, provides step-by-step guidance, and establishes deep trust among new traders while leaving room for advanced features in future updates.
